The Nintendo Game Boy is an iconic piece of consumer technology and ranks alongside the Walkman, iPod and iPhone when it comes to instantly recognisable pieces of portable tech.

Even people who have never touched a handheld games console before can easily spot a Game Boy – and one of the most famous examples has to be the 'Gulf War Game Boy', which has been on display in Nintendo's New York store for the past few years.

The Game Boy in question was damaged when US barracks were bombed in the Gulf War conflict, which lasted from 1990 to 1991. Amazingly, despite its somewhat charred appearance, it still functions.

However, another tour of duty is coming to an end for the device, which has been returned to Nintendo's HQ in Redmond, Washington:

Did you get to see this most famous of Game Boys while it was in New York? Perhaps you've seen it shown off elsewhere? Let us know with a comment below.
