The developer Reality Jump and retro publisher Wave Game Studios has revealed that it is now accepting preorders for its new Rocket League-esque title Driving Strikers — the first online game for Sega Dreamcast in over 20 years.
According to the announcement, Driving Strikers lets up to four players compete in vehicular-based football matches locally or online using a modem or over the internet "with full Modem and Broadband Adapter compatibility".
It even remarkably includes a crossplay functionality too, letting you compete against other players that are experiencing the game instead on Windows and Linux — something that should come in handy if you can't rustle up enough friends who still own a Sega Dreamcast.
It is the work of a small two-person team at Reality Jump including Luke Benstead (the creator of DreamPi, a popular method of getting the Dreamcast online) and Dave Reichelt, who first revealed the project two years ago in 2021.
Much like Rocket League, the goal of the game is to get the ball into the opponent's net, but unlike that game, the camera doesn't follow the player around but is positioned at a high angle lurking overhead.
If you want to pick up a copy of the game, you can preorder it now from Wave's website. It costs £19.99 (reduced from £29.99 as a special limited-time offer) and features three cover variants for European, North American, and Japanese regions.
